A RAIN OF STARS UPON MAN*
Gareth’s a Welshman who can’t speak Welsh. Inspired by the KKK he invents his own language. Instead of division he wants to put friendliness at the heart of his world view.
“He’s funny and charming with his Daffodil Hat, he immediately disarms and earns the right to tackle difficult topics.” – DoorstepArts
ARSUM switches between toy sheep news reports in Welsh to real childhood stories of abandoned dogs and broken glass. Gareth’s daughter instinctively tames beasts of the imagination, he invites you to pelt him with paper balls. With basic keyboard skills he reworks national anthems and playfully dances.
Eight years ago we made a solo show examining how language can define a person and how it can keep people in groups and keep outsiders out. These themes grow in significance so we’ve reworked the show for the realities of 2015/16
Gareth is actually half English (but doesn’t like to talk about it). Here Gareth revisits the headdresses of ‘The Spaceman’ and ‘Herod’ from his first hugely successful roles at Primary school. Now he’s talking about a different kind of ‘alien’ and newer bearded fanatics.
*A Rain of Stars Upon Man is the origin of the word 'disaster'
